Legislators Unite in Fight Against Child Abuse - PR Newswire (press release)
Statewide Training Key to Helping Professionals Recognize and Report Suspected Abuse HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Speaker of the House John Perzel, Reps. Katie True and Russ Fairchild joined the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance to release a report on the success of statewide child abuse training for professionals who work with children. A pre-training survey indicated that, on average, teachers, clergy, and social service workers received a failing grade of F regarding their knowledge of the Child Protective Services Law and reporting requirement. That grade was elevated to a B after the same people received training through PFSA. "When mandated reporters fail to properly identify child abuse and neglect, and report their suspicions to authorities, the system fails our children," said Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick. "This report tells us that this training is vital to tens of thousands of professionals to give them the information they need to help protect our children."
