Former Ada man named to OKMEA Hall of Fame - Ada Evening News
ADA — Dr. John E. Clinton, formerly of Ada, was named to the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Hall of Fame during their winter conference in Tulsa. Before embarking on his 37 year career, Clinton received a bachelor’s degree from East Central University after graduating from Ada High School. Later he earned a master’s of music education degree from the University of Oklahoma and completed his PhD in music education at the University of North Texas with emphases in orchestral conducting, string pedagogy and sociology.Clinton is now the founder and executive director of the Oklahoma Center for Arts Education at the University of Central Oklahoma. Recently he was also named Dean of Fine Arts at UCO. Since 1992 he has served as conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra.Clinton’s first teaching position was band director for Konawa Public Schools. In 1969 he joined Norman Public Schools where he held positions as coordinator of elementary bands, band director, orchestra director (21 years), supervisor of music, and director of fine arts (14 years). As the conductor of the Norman High School Orchestra, he had more than 20 years of sweepstakes trophies at state orchestra competitions.Clinton has conducted high school orchestras at the Midwest Band - more available
