Alberta acting teacher hoping that lightning strikes twice - Brandon Sun
RED DEER, Alta. — If Brokeback Mountain takes home the best picture trophy on Oscar night, it will be the second brush with movie greatness for Larry Reese, an acting teacher at Red Deer College. Reese had a small part in the acclaimed story of ill-fated love between two Wyoming cowboys — he played the Jolly Minister, who married the characters played by Heath Ledger and his real-life fiancee, Michelle Williams. Reese also had a bit part in Clint Eastwood’s 1992 Oscar-winning cowboy epic Unforgiven. Both movies were filmed in Alberta. Though his part in Brokeback takes up a mere 10 seconds, he does have one close-up. Reese said he had to audition three times for the part — including one in which he humorously flubbed his lines in front of director Ang Lee — and had to compete against actors from Vancouver and Los Angeles.
